The United States of Israel is an independent publication centered on Palestine and Gaza, the politics surrounding Israel, American power, archival records, memory, testimony and culture.
Editorial position. The publication is anti-Zionist. That is a political position about Zionism, state power and institutions. It is not a judgment about Jewish identity, and the site will not publish anti-Jewish hate or collective blame directed at Jewish people.
Why the name
The title comes from the opening piece and its author's criticism of the depth of American political, military and institutional support for Israel. Future contributors do not have to use the phrase in exactly the same way.
What this site is for
The goal is to make room for work that is sourced, personal, visual, historical or argumentative without pretending those forms are interchangeable. The site should make it easy to see who wrote something, what kind of piece it is and where the underlying records came from.
Corrections
Corrections should be visible rather than silently buried. When a factual claim changes, the published piece should identify what changed and why whenever the correction is material.
Source discipline
Primary records are preferred when available. Secondary reporting should be linked. Contested legal or political claims should show readers the source and the relevant dispute rather than hiding it in vague language.
