Nabilah ‘Abd a-Nabi began her testimony by remembering Fridays in her family’s three-story home in the a-Twam area of northwest Gaza City. It was a day when children and grandchildren came together. She described the household routines surrounding work, school, university and meals, including the quiet while family members were away and their return home. These memories identify what the house held beyond its walls.
Her family fled south in October 2023. In testimony collected by B’Tselem in February 2026, Nabilah described living at an overcrowded UNRWA training center in Khan Yunis, depending on assistance and waiting to use shared toilets. Family privacy and safety became persistent concerns. Her account gives specificity to displacement: daily activities once taken for granted had to be negotiated in unfamiliar surroundings.
She also reported the loss of her son Muhammad a-Sultan, his wife and their two young children on 31 October 2023. She recalled losing another son in 2014. Those losses should not be reproduced as spectacle. Her own testimony records both the family she built and the deaths she mourns. Understanding why she began with memories of Fridays is essential to reading the rest of her account.
