Rama Hussain Abu Amra brought home a small cat named Mintos and bought him a red collar. He became part of her daily routine, greeting her when she came back and sleeping beside her. In a September 2026 first-person essay, Rama remembered his green eyes and the particular habits she came to recognize. She had originally wanted a cat to help with rats, but Mintos quickly became a companion.
Mintos became ill and Rama sought veterinary assistance. His health continued to deteriorate, and he died on 19 August 2026. She described burying him by the sea and keeping his collar. The cause of his illness was never confirmed. Giving his death a more definite explanation than the published account supplies would diminish the care with which Rama documented what happened.
The essay also discusses another household’s sick cat and difficulty finding veterinary tests, equipment and medicine. Those conditions are important, but they do not make Mintos merely a symbol of a larger crisis. He was an animal loved by a particular person, and the grief she recorded belongs to her. The original essay offers the detail and language of Rama’s own experience.
